URCC13070 - COACH Logo

Training materials and resources are now available for URCC13070: COACH. Please note:  This study is very similar to URCC13059: GAP-70+, however, there are some key differences.  You will need to undergo a separate training for COACH regardless of whether or not you have done or will be doing the GAP-70+ training. You will NOT, however, be required to repeat the Geriatric Assessment portion of the training.
One important aspect of these two geriatric studies is that patients who are eligible for GAP-70+ will also be eligible for COACH, but not necessarily in reverse.  If a patient is eligible for and participates in both studies, you will receive credit for both studies.  That is, for one patient, you could potentially receive 1.0 credit for GAP-70+ and 1.3 credits for COACH (for patient and caregiver dyad).  The differences, similarities and overlap of the two studies will be covered as part of the COACH training.

The URCC Research Base wants to thank you for your support of the geriatric assessment studies that are newly available.   URCC 13059 (Geriatric assessment to reduce chemotherapy toxicity – GAP70+) is activated and URCC 13070 (Geriatric assessment to improve communication – COACH) will be activated soon.

Dr. Mohile, the PI, is holding informational webinars on June 12 at 4:30pm EST and on June 24 at 12pm EST for anyone who is interested in learning more about the above mentioned studies.  Together, we have the opportunity to gather information that could help inform policy to support oncology clinical practices that care for the majority of older patients, most of whom are complex with multiple, competing needs.

These voluntary informational webinars are geared toward physicians who may be interested in participating, but all are welcome to attend (any research staff).  Dr. Mohile is interested in hearing your perspectives on the studies and how to make them work within your practice settings.

Greetings fellow CCOP (at least for another 2 days—but who is counting),

We got what should be a winning score on our NCORP research base application (31 which was, we think, fourth best among ALL research bases; I say ‘ think’ because there is one research base whose score nobody seems able to find out).

So we’re planning on being in business as NCORP with the fond hopes that we and all of you will see each other’s friendly faces around our table  at the meeting 5-6 Sept when we’ll be officially kicking off our next 5 years together.

Below is a table of what our portfolio currently looks like:  we’re finishing up Karen’s EXCAP study / increased follow-up has been approved for Michelle’s Cognitive protocol / Oxana’s limited site pilot (BBT) is accruing nicely with plans for a protocol to follow on if this feasibility pilot shows feasibility / Paul’s study of accrual to trials is open and accruing /  Supriya’s GAP-70+ and COACH studies will be activated this summer / Luke’s vitamin D R-03 and Karen’s YOCAS R-01 are approved and we’re working on implementation prior to the meeting.  NCI allowed us to keep working on these protocols because they are based on NIH or PCORI approved grants or were already in the NCI approval pipeline.
