Greetings fellow CCOP (at least for another 2 days—but who is counting),

We got what should be a winning score on our NCORP research base application (31 which was, we think, fourth best among ALL research bases; I say ‘ think’ because there is one research base whose score nobody seems able to find out).

So we’re planning on being in business as NCORP with the fond hopes that we and all of you will see each other’s friendly faces around our table  at the meeting 5-6 Sept when we’ll be officially kicking off our next 5 years together.

Below is a table of what our portfolio currently looks like:  we’re finishing up Karen’s EXCAP study / increased follow-up has been approved for Michelle’s Cognitive protocol / Oxana’s limited site pilot (BBT) is accruing nicely with plans for a protocol to follow on if this feasibility pilot shows feasibility / Paul’s study of accrual to trials is open and accruing /  Supriya’s GAP-70+ and COACH studies will be activated this summer / Luke’s vitamin D R-03 and Karen’s YOCAS R-01 are approved and we’re working on implementation prior to the meeting.  NCI allowed us to keep working on these protocols because they are based on NIH or PCORI approved grants or were already in the NCI approval pipeline.

URCC13070Improving Communication for Cancer Treatment in Older Patients is approved and available for download and submission to your IRB.   The study chair for this protocol is Supriya Mohile, MD, MS, a geriatric oncologist at the University of Rochester Cancer Center.  This is the second of the two geriatric studies we are doing.

The protocol and supporting study documents are posted on our website.  You will need to LOG IN with your CCOP login and password in order to download these documents.  If you have any difficulty with this process, please contact Sebastien Estaque at 585.275.2044 or Steve Marshall at 585.273.2547.

IMPORTANT NOTE-PLEASE READLike the other geriatric study recently made available [URCC13059], this study was discussed at our annual meeting in September and some preliminary training was done during the Thursday night coordinators’ session.  More detailed training for staff who will be involved in this study is required prior to your site beginning accrual.  We will be setting up training sessions electronically through GoToMeeting.  Libby Nagalski will be coordinating that training. More details will follow.

Submit your IRB approval documents to Cathy Lesniewski as usual.  Once we have your IRB approval and your staff have completed the training, we will activate the study.

Credit for this protocol is 1.3 credits/dyad (patient and caregiver combination).
